Miss me?

I hope the people who rely on this blog to check to see if I'm still alive are ok that I took a week off. I had a good number of all-nighters to contend with, and neither the time or the will to get this puppy updated. As everyone within earshot knows, I also did not have the time to attend the Toronto Comic Art Fest last weekend. I hope all the rat bastards who made it to the event had a real good time.

To compensate, I will be heading to Montreal for a little R n' R this weekend. Thank fuck for the Montreal Comix Jam blog, or I would have missed out on yet another cool happening, Blue Metropolis. First up on the programme is Writing Ridicule. J. is going for Michael Fucking Palin, and I'm there for Montreal political cartoonist Aislin. After that I'll be heading for the Comix Jam which will already be underway. Finally I can get involved in a Montreal Comix Jam! Next is Sampling Comes To Comics with David Rees, Sherwin Tjia, Kid Koala, and the aforementioned Aislin. I'm not sure if I'll be making it for Get Your War On : Comics As Intelligent Dissent with David Rees, though I hope I can squeeze it in. My main purpose in going to Montreal for the weekend is to catch my favourite band play live, The Kingpins. If you plan on being in Montreal you should come out for some ska goodness. I'll be the sandy haired guy in the suit cutting a rug with a raven haired beauty.

What's with this Canadian comics explosion? If you're near Quebec City, you may want to pop by the Festival de la BD francophone de Québec 2003. Also, Broken Pencil, Canada's answer to Factsheet 5, will be releasing an all-comics issue in June. Thanks once again to the indispensible Montreal Comix Jam. If you're looking to contribute, drop those Epic submissions and get a move on! You don't have much time.

PoPoMo

About a month ago cartoonist Alan Hunt made the disturbing discovery that I had linked to his blog. Apparently he hadn't known that people were reading his private thoughts. Oops. Sorry, Alan. In his most recent entry he talks about learning practical things from comics, such as choosing a horse and figuring out magic tricks.

Journalista recently changed their listing of my site from Flat Earth to Steven Wintle, which I am really pleased with. The downside is that hits from their site have decreased by at least 50%. I'm guessing Steven Wintle just doesn't have the same ring to it. So much for my attempts at branding.

On the plus side, I told a few classmates about this blog and they seem to like it. Probably mostly for the convenient set of links on the sidebar there. Regardless, welcome Algonquin animation students! Now get back to work, you goldbricks!
